Nonprofit Roundtable Discussion on “Future-Proofing Your Organization” on July 30

Staff and board members of nonprofit organizations, social enterprises, and government agencies are invited to attend the Nonprofit Roundtable on “Future-Proofing Your Organization” with guest expert Blake Stockard from Kumwe Systems kicking off the discussion. Presented by Nonprofit Jenni, this free event is Tuesday, July 30, 5:30-7pm at FiftyForward, located at 174 Rains Avenue (near the Fairgrounds). Meet other nonprofit professionals in your area who are facing the same challenges, learn from one another, share resources, and find opportunities to collaborate through moderated roundtable discussions. YLC/Williamson Chamber Class 2019 Application Deadline Extended to July 20

Are you a young professional between the ages of 25-40, who lives, works or does business in Williamson County, and looking for an opportunity to take your community service to the next level? For the seventh consecutive year, YLC will be partnering with Williamson, Inc. to offer nonprofit board leadership training on 11 consecutive Thursdays, September 12-November 21 from 8-10:30am at Williamson Inc.’s office in Cool Springs. After learning crucial skills needed for today’s nonprofit leadership roles, graduates will serve a one-year internship on a self-selected local nonprofit board to put these newfound skills into action. Young professionals interested in applying should do so online here by JULY 20 to be eligible for the 2019 class. The participation fee is $550. Be a part of the premier organization for training nonprofit board leaders with more than 2,600 graduates making a difference since 1985. The Dancing Divas and Dudes was started in Nashville as the first nonprofit dance team for individuals with special needs. Each team member has the opportunity to grow physically, mentally, and emotionally at practices while learning a variety of dance genres. The nonprofit plays a crucial role in erasing the stigma that individuals with special needs take away from society, and proving they contribute. The Dancing Divas and Dudes is looking for board members with law, marketing, strategic planning or fine arts skills. YLC is so proud of Harry Allen (Class 62), who rang the Rotary bell for the first time yesterday after being installed as the 2019-20 president of the Rotary Club of Nashville, the third largest Rotary Club worldwide and the largest civic club in Tennessee with 600 members from the business, civic and government sectors. Harry is chief relationship officer of Studio Bank, and was quoted about his new leadership role: “For 105 years, Rotarians have been leading and serving Nashville. Our city is changing in dynamic ways and the stakes are higher than ever for our leaders to engage this diverse and growing community.” We know you’ll do an awesome job, Harry!

This month’s Williamson, Inc. Young Professionals Luncheon is Thursday, July 18, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Williamson County Association of Realtors office, 1646 Westgate Circle, Ste. 104 in Brentwood and features a panel of seasoned professionals giving you guidance on how to own the room the right way. Panelists Allena Bell, Master School Board Member of Franklin Special School District; Rep. Sam Whitson, TN House District 65; and YLC alumnus Matt Largen (Class 45), President & CEO of Williamson, Inc., will be sharing advice they wish they had been given earlier in their careers. After this luncheon, whether you are walking into a board meeting, staff meeting, or networking event, you will be equipped with new tools to own the room the right way. Register here. Thanks to Brentwood Home Page and its sister publications in Franklin, Nolensville and Spring Hill, for helping us get the word out about YLC’s seventh annual partnership with Williamson, Inc. to train young professionals between the ages of 25-40, who live, work or do business in Williamson County, in 11 weekly sessions, beginning September 12. Each session, meeting on consecutive Thursdays through November 21, will meet from 8:00-10:30 a.m. at Williamson Inc.’s office in Cool Springs, and will cover board member responsibilities, strategic planning, nonprofit financials, legal responsibilities, conflict resolution, fundraising, and effective meetings, all of which are crucial skills needed for today’s nonprofit leadership roles. The graduates of the program will then serve a one-year internship on a local nonprofit board to put their newfound skills into action. The application deadline has been extended to July 20.
